2. The Grade and type of Main Materials

  • PVC: Flexible and Low-cost material used for manufacturing of gaskets, bumpers, medical tubing, etc.,
  • UPVC: Rigid material resistant to chemicals, at a low cost. They are  used in the manufacturing of windows, drain pipes, frames, etc.,

  • Polycarbonate: High-cost variant used in products that perform well with heat and are UV stabilized. Products like water bottles and eye-protection equipment are manufactured with Polycarbonate.

3. Dimensions of the Product

Manufacturing tubes is an important application of the Plastic Extrusion process. The length of the extrusion line and the size of the coil deeply affect the maximum length of the manufactured tubes. So, you should make sure that they meet your need.

4. Product Finish

The finish of the output largely impacts the aesthetics of the product. Make the product look premium and stylish by opting for the various finish options. You can opt for a glossy finish, matte finish, wood grain finish, metallic finish, etc. Discuss with the supplier if they can provide the required finish.

5. Tooling Capability

Various tools and techniques like Single-Screw Extruder, Twin-Screw Extruder, Tripple-Screw Extruder, etc., are available for Plastic Extrusion. Before finalizing your supplier, you should clarify your requirement and assess the manufacturer’s tooling requirement.

6. Capacity and Production Speed

The Production speed and capacity largely depend on the product profiles. While standard profiles can be manufactured faster, complex or hollow profiles require more time. The production capability, line speed, number of shifts, etc., should be compared to your requirement.

7. Tooling Setup

The assembly sequence, tooling selection, tooling conditions, etc., are significant in Plastic Extrusion. Considering the manufacturer’s tooling setup would be best to minimise wastage and improve efficiency.

8. Output

The output capacity per hour is an essential factor influencing the time duration of the project. The output capacity of the Plastic Extruders depends upon the type of machinery used. The output of Single-Screw, Twin-Screw, Tripple-Screw extruders, etc., varies. For instance, a Twin -screw extruder can provide 600 kg/h output.

9. Tolerances

Tolerances refer to the slight increase or decrease in the specifications of the plastic profile within the given acceptable range. Maintaining a high tolerance level in large volume productions is challenging due to the wear and tear of the die. Balancing the cost implications and the manufacturing capability with a tight tolerance level is important.

10. Typical Products

Typical products that can be manufactured using Plastic Extrusion are large. Some are windows, tubes, pipes, door frames, claddings, etc. You should choose a supplier who has experience manufacturing your kind of products.
